Surrey Hills
On their wedding day 25 years ago, Pep and Malene vowed to realise each other’s dreams. For Malene, an occupational therapist who works with horses, her dream became a reality when Pep built her a stable yard on the land they own together in the Surrey Hills. Now it’s time for high-flying corporate accountant Pep’s life-long ambition to take shape – building a house.

The impetus to realise that dream came into sharp focus two years ago, when Pep was diagnosed with terminal cancer. But where that devastating news might lead most to prioritise rest and the avoidance of stress, Pep sees it as an incentive to focus her energy on something positive.

The plan is to build a modern take on a Viking Hall, inspired by the couple’s love of all things Scandinavian and Malene’s Danish heritage. It will represent their shared life together, a house of memories in years to come. They must build as quickly as possible, so Pep can enjoy what time she has left in the finished home, meaning that the many hurdles and headaches of construction have to be avoided at all costs. With so much at stake, it’s a real race against time.
