North West London

Seb is a thirty-two-year-old London architect with the rare opportunity to build his own house on a site he knows well - his grandparents’ back garden. No ordinary building, his ambitious design will challenge many of the conventions of traditional construction, from an innovative roof cladding system he devised himself to a structure made from cross-laminated timber panels imported from Austria.

For Seb, this is a chance to create something genuinely original, but it’s also a huge personal gamble. He wants the house to be built quickly and to the highest possible standards, yet he has just four hundred and twenty thousand pounds to make it happen. On an awkward, tightly constrained site, every penny and every inch of space has to work hard. Architect, client, and project manager, he is taking on the biggest challenge of his professional life and is putting his fledgling architectural career on the line. More than that, he must also do full justice to the faith his family has placed in him.
