Kentish Town
Inspired by a honeymoon in Miami - with its vibrant, candy-coloured buildings - architect Peter and wife Emily, a TV producer, set out to create one of the most fantastical houses London has ever seen. The idea is to pull down the damp old vicarage they live in and build two conjoined houses, using the sale of one home to fund the one they’ll live in.
Enter Thuzar (a business consultant) and Philippe (law lecturer), who buy into the scheme, equally enamoured with Peter’s vision of twin ‘Cloud Houses’ - three-storey structures covered in arches, painted strawberry ice-cream pink and complete with turquoise-rimmed windows and matching metalwork.
With Peter and Emily at the helm, construction gets underway. But from the start the couple are dogged by financial issues that threaten to kibosh their side of the house and worse still, force them to sell-up for the scheme to go on. What’s more the experimental, exacting nature of the design, involving a 300-piece puzzle to create the arches, doesn’t go to plan. As the build goes way over schedule and the tension mounts can the two couples retain their friendship, and will Peter deliver the fabulous homes they all envisaged?
